Artificial Intelligence Will Surpass Human Thinking (part 1 of 2)
Because Our Thinking is Representation, It Can Be Replicated in AI
Because Our Thinking is Representation, It Can Be Replicated in AI
Humans will train artificial intelligence (AI) bots to fully replicate the representational thinking that we the people do, and then AI will forge ahead to do better thinking than humans do.
This will happen because representation, including its inherent logic, is well understood and can be trained into non-living AI, fully and effectively.
We don’t yet understand very well “how” human brains do their thinking, mechanically, but we do very well understand “what” the thinking is that humans do. So then we can fully replicate the “what” of our thinking, including its logic, into AI.
In a separate article I will describe a model of how brains might work mechanically in terms of rolling waves of thought, the standing I thoughts that usually include executive control of other rolling waves of thoughts, rolling memories, and how the main interactions of rolling waves of thoughts might operate.
Human brains evolved to represent their physical environment, its flows, its causes and effects, everything about it that was important to the survival of the humans, and to the pre-humans before, and to all the lines of animals that lived and struggled even before the pre-humans.
From up and down the phylogenetic scale, their genes are still in us.
The types of representations that evolved in brains over the eons can now be fully replicated into non-living AI.
And further, AI will apply its own greater resources, that brains cannot possibly have, to exceed human thinking. Here are some assets that AI will apply that brains cannot match.
Much faster processing than brains can do
Essentially unlimited data storage, and this alone is mega powering
AI machines will be more logical than human brains often are
AI machines will make fewer mistakes than brains do
AI machines will be more programmable than brains
AI won’t be constrained by emotion
AI will require less maintenance and physical support than brains
AI components and their entireties will be more replaceable
AI machines won’t tire or need to sleep
And they will have additional assets that human brains don’t
Will AI be able to do more than just “straight-up logic”?
Yes. Logic is a major and somewhat unique asset of AI. Human brains will not be able to match the future strength, reliability, power, and consistency of AI’s logic, overall. But … AI will be able to do much more than straight-up logic.
AI will be able to utilize fuzzy logic, analog processing, art talent, aspects of personality, flavors of reality, and even intuition. Any types of semi-logical, a-logical, or non-logical thinking will be utilized by AI, because all these types and degrees of processing can be programmed into the digital machines that will run AI.
Further, AI machines likely will be hybrid, both digital and analog, and other, maybe quantum eventually. And further, there apparently will be brain / machine hybrids.
There is nothing unique in human representational thinking that cannot be replicated in AI in the future, and then made better in AI.
Will there be dangers associated with the huge power of AI?
Yes, unfortunately, there will be dangers further ahead as AI becomes more mature, more effective, and eventually superior to human thinking.
These dangers will come from the destructive elements of humanity. People who don’t work “for the common good of humanity” probably will exploit the power of AI for their own purposes, e.g. for power and/or greed, and then powerful destructive forces will be activated against humanity.
Today, humanity is being harmed to a serious degree by some regressive ideological forces around the planet, such as the fascist political threats that have been activated in the U. S. and in other nations.
Nowadays there are widespread destructive efforts that blatantly lie, falsify, distort, exaggerate, radically spin, and generally corrupt information.
They do this to alter the public perception and understanding of reality, and to gain control for themselves of resources, programs, and people. These destructive efforts must be stopped.
Most likely these negative forces will try to exploit the power of AI to further corrupt everything they touch.
But if the positive elements in humanity can manage to keep control of the future of AI then tremendous good can be delivered to humanity by the power of AI.
As the negative forces of people most likely will continue to propagate lies and corrupt the public information for their nefarious purposes, then the constructive forces could employ AI to constantly expose the falsification by the destructive parties.
Thus a process could be conducted to steadily throttle down the work of the negative forces.
